About Us
About us
plavalmat® is a registered trademark of Oakfield Learning Ltd.
We are a small family-run business based in the UK with a passion for all things maths.
How we started
Established in 2022
Our company director combined knowledge and experience of over 20 years in Primary education to develop our plavalmat® system of number and place value resources.
OUR MISSION IS TO
HELP CHILDREN MASTER MATHS
Our Aims
For Pupils
Like us, we want children to have a love of maths. By using a practical hands-on approach, pupils will have more fun and be more engaged. Our quality, bright and colourful resources get children more actively involved in their learning.
The plavalmat® system of number and place value resources has consistent colour coding for consistency and easy recognition.
All our maths resources support pupils following the Concrete > Pictorial > Abstract (CPA) approach which are known to help pupils to build strong foundations and a develop a deep understanding of maths concepts.
Our Aims
For Teachers and Tutors in Educational Settings
We understand that funding is always an issue and budgets are limited. Consequently, we consider it is essential to provide high-quality resources at an affordable price so our products have been teacher-designed to be as multi-functional, hardwearing and long-lasting as possible. This saves money for two reasons: Firstly, the same resource can be used in several topics. Secondly, replacing items that are made from cheaper or lower quality materials ultimately becomes a false economy.
Our Aims
For The Environment
We want to HELP CHILDREN MASTER MATHS but not at a cost to the environment.
We have have done everything we can to produce our plavalmat® products as sustainably as possible, but we are continually looking for ways to improve.
Principally, as all our products are made from durable materials, they are reusable so will last for many years therefore reducing waste and resources.
Where possible we try to source items that use recycled materials from post-manufacturing waste and are from companies based either in the UK or Europe in order to minimise air miles.
When our products are no longer required, we ask our customers to them to donate them to local schools, charities or other educational establishments before taking to recycling facilities and not putting in landfill.
We try to re-use boxes and other packaging before using new. Also we use card/paper recyclable materials to ship products to our customers. We also use courier services who produce low CO2 emissions and pay a Green Fuel Surcharge on shipments.
